Template Tutorial

This page explains how to make existing templates into functional new web pages.

With this step by step aid reference you'll be able to:
     1. Determine which template is most appropriate for your needs.
     2. Duplicate that template.
     3. Rename and relocate the template to it's new path.
     4. Custom modify the new duplicate(s) with your new content.
     5. Confirm that the style guides are applied well.

1. Determine which template is most appropriate for your needs.

Presently there are two factors to consider when selecting from the four template options:
Q: Will your new content belong to a section*?
Clearly labelled sections are important for visitors navigating around your web site
(this page section header says "Welcome!" but the left and top of this page are not lined).
Current sections are About, Services, Reources, or Contact (with room for more sections)
with every page lined up the left side, across the top, to the section header.
Contact Sunshine if you need a new section (for left side buttons, header, and coding).
Q: Is there only one page, or will there be sequential pages (2 or more)?
Sequential pages will be nested in a folder named after the title of the project.
A: Your template options are:
     SequentialFolder_Section
     SequentialFolder
     SinglePage.htm
     SinglePage_Section.htm

2. Duplicate that template.

Preferably with web site publishing software (ie. DreamWeaver) or by using WindowsExplorer go to the Templates folder and copy and paste the appropriate web page template or folder template making a "Copy of SinglePage(_Section).htm" file or "Copy of SequentialFolder(_Section)" folder.

3(s). Rename and relocate a single page template to it's new path.

For a single page template:
     A. rename the html file
           (ie."Copy of SinglePage_Section.htm" file to "ContactList.htm")
     B. cut and paste the file in the appropriate folder
           (ie. from "Templates/ContactList.htm" to "Resources/ContactList.htm")
Also apply these two steps for a section single page template :
     C. with web site publishing software or a text editor, open the file to edit the source code
     D. edit the source code by finding and replacing the section header with a correct header
           (ie. from "Header_Right_Lined_Blank_628x140.png"
                 to "Header_Right_Resources_628x140.png")

3(f). Rename and relocate a folder template to it's new path.

For a sequential folder template:
     A. rename the folder with the title of your series
           (ie."SequentialFolder_Section.htm" file to "12_Step_Program")
     B. cut and paste the folder in the appropriate folder
           (ie. from "Templates/12_Step_Program" to "Services/12_Step_Program")
Also apply these two steps to each file within for a section sequential folder template :
     C. with web site publishing software or a text editor, open the file to edit the source code
     D. edit the source code by finding and replacing the section header with a correct header
           (ie. from "Header_Right_Lined_Blank_628x140.png"
                 to "Header_Right_Services_628x140.png")
     E. Determine how many pages you will need.
Blah blah blah...

4. Custom modify the new duplicate(s) with your new content.

Blah blah blah...

5. Confirm that the style guides are applied well.

Blah blah blah...
